Jasmina Waters

AKRON SQUAD

Jasmina D. Waters is the Aim High Akron GEAR UP Program Manager at Akron Public Schools. GEAR UP is designed to embed a college-going culture in targeted schools and communities to increase the number of low-income students prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Previously, Jasmina worked as the Director of Kent State University's Upward Bound Classic Academy. Furthermore, Jasmina is the Founder of The Village Is Us, a nonprofit that focuses on improving the emotional and mental health of K-12 parents to ensure they can be their healthiest selves while raising their children.



As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Jasmina is a woman dedicated to public service with an emphasis on programs that assist the African American community centered on Delta's Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement, International Awareness and Involvement. In addition to her service within the sorority, Jasmina oversees the Woman2Woman ministry at The Light Church Youngstown and Akron locations, teaches The Light Church Kids, and serves on the outreach and administration team.



As an Alumnus of Akron Public Schools and a native of Akron, Ohio, Jasmina has an extensive 10+ year background fostering university and community partnerships, executing sustainable programming to address academic barriers, facilitating family and community engagement, and planning professional and student conferences.



Jasmina is highly passionate about accentuating the learning space and believes every student deserves a rich support system that enables them to thrive in and outside the classroom. Together with her rooted advocation towards improving family wellness and molding well-rounded future leaders, these experiences shaped Jasmina into the advocate she is today.



Jasmina holds a BA in Communication Studies and an M.Ed. in School Counseling.
